High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

In our classroom

High potential can be found in many different forms across all students. Our approach to High Potential and Gifted Education is seamlessly integrated into everyday teaching and learning. It is driven by a strong emphasis on formative assessment, evidence-based methods and tailored differentiation to address each student’s unique needs.

Below are some of the evidence-supported teaching strategies employed in our classrooms to support every learner:

Use of Formative Assessment Tools
Teachers consistently utilise diagnostic assessments, observation checklists and student self-assessments to identify strengths and areas for improvement across various domains. This timely information guides lesson planning and differentiation, fostering continuous student progress and engagement.

Differentiated Learning Tasks and Flexible Grouping
Learning activities are crafted with varying levels of complexity, allowing students to work independently, in pairs, or within flexible groups based on interests or abilities. This approach ensures appropriate challenge while promoting collaboration, leadership, motivation and social development.

High Expectations Embedded in Lesson Planning
Teachers clearly communicate high expectations by creating learning goals that encourage higher-order thinking, creativity and problem-solving. Students are motivated to set personal goals and reflect on their progress, cultivating a growth mindset, resilience and self-confidence, which supports deeper learning and improved achievement.

Student Leadership and Voice
Students are encouraged to take leading roles in projects, discussions and school initiatives aligned with their interests. They also participate in goal-setting and self-assessment activities, enhancing their sense of ownership, motivation and leadership skills.

Ongoing Professional Learning and Collaboration
Teachers regularly engage in professional development focused on HPGE strategies and collaborate to share best practices and design differentiated curriculum units. This continuous learning strengthens instructional quality and consistency, ensuring that all students benefit from effective talent development.
