Religion and ethics

At our school, students can take part in special religious education (SRE) or special education in ethics (SEE) classes, depending on what’s available. These classes are delivered by approved providers.

When enrolling your child, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.

You’re welcome to change your choice at any time. Just let us know in writing.

At Neutral Bay Public School, Special Religious Education (SRE) and Special Education in Ethics (SEE) is delivered every Wednesday afternoon at the following times:

1:40-2:10pm - K-2 students

2:10-2:40pm - Stage 2 students (Years 3 & 4)

2:40-3:10pm - Stage 3 students (Years 5 & 6)

Catholic Scripture

Catholic SRE ‘Scripture' classes are provided by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and taught by volunteers from local Catholic churches. Protestant Scripture

Protestant SRE at Neutral Bay Public School is provided by volunteers from the local Anglican church, The Bridge Church. Volunteers are all authorised and trained by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, an approved SRE provider. Teachers provide education in Christian beliefs and practices for students in K-6. The SRE curriculum used in this school is produced by Christian Education Publications and is approved by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney. Jewish Scripture

Jewish SRE is provided by the NSW Board of Jewish Education (BJE). All teachers undergo a selection process and are trained in the professional delivery of the curriculum and in classroom management. The curriculum is developed by BJE’s professionally trained educators taking studenthood development milestones into account. For more information, please see BJE’s website

Islamic Scripture

Islamic Instruction teachers are authorised and trained by the Islamic Council of NSW (ICNSW) and approved by the Islamic Special Religious Education Organisation. The curriculum is approved by the Islamic Council of NSW and has been running since the early 1980’s. The ISRE lessons provide a specifically tailored Islamic education program for Muslim students from Kindergarten through to Year 6. Bahai Scripture

The Baha'i Council for South Eastern Australia is the approved provider for Baha'i SRE in NSW schools, offering a curriculum based on Baha'i writings and principles. Baha'i SRE aims to cultivate spiritual qualities such as love, justice, and trustworthiness, while teaching about the unity of God and religion, and the equality of men and women. Special Education in Ethics

SEE is provided by Primary Ethics. SEE classes support students to develop a life-long capacity for making well-reasoned decisions about ethical issues. Non-Scripture

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and will participate in meaningful activities such as reading.

High potential and gifted education

At our school, we give the right support to help advanced or talented learners grow and do their best.

We notice these students early. They may learn quickly or show strong skills in creativity, leadership, problem solving or sport. We help them stay challenged with lessons and activities that match their strengths.
